Back to School, Pet of the Week

For many families in our area, summer vacation has officially come to an end. As school starts back around the lowcountry, our animal shelters and rescues see a significant decline in adoptions. Stocking up on back-to-school supplies takes priority, and unfortunately a lot of pups and kitties are left waiting for their forever homes. Our local animal shelters are filled to the brim with wonderful adoptable pets this time of year. If you are able, please consider opening up your home to a lovable new friend by adopting a pet!

Highway 6

Our featured pet of the week is Highway! This playful guy would absolutely love a family of his own. His intelligent and observant eyes are always looking for a way to make you smile! He is guaranteed to keep you laughing as he sticks by your side through thick and thin.

Back-to-school can also be a stressful time for the pets already in your life. Many dogs, and even cats, suffer from separation anxiety. Say their best friend started fifth grade this year- they may miss them terribly while they are gone! While everyone is busy with school and work, some pet owners come home to destroyed blinds, “accidents” on the carpet, and sometimes even holes in drywall! We can help! Come by The Folly Road Animal Hospital any time to talk to us about tactics for treating separation anxiety. You can also find more information here.

Need help getting your cat to the vet? Say hello to our new Kitty Peace Packs!

adorable, animal, animal world

Does the thought of cramming your cat in a small box and listening to him howl the entire way to the vet’s office fill you with dread? What about the mess he will inevitably make in the crate, or the way he will treat you for the days (if not weeks) afterward? No amount of canned fish will make him forgive you! It’s terrible!

We get it! Sometimes when one weighs the pros and cons of bringing one’s cat to the vet, that annual wellness visit gets put on the back burner. Unfortunately, that annual exam is extremely important. Cats are stoic, mischievous animals. They can easily disguise illness, and in reality it is impossible to tell what they could be exposed to throughout the year. Cats should receive regular exams and vaccinations to ensure they are kept healthy and happy.

Oh, if only there were an easier way! Wouldn’t it be something if all cats everywhere could receive the veterinary care they need, without the drama? No blood, sweat, tears, (or cat pee!)

Introducing FRAH Kitty Peace Packs! Each Peace Pack includes 2 capsules of medicine, one capsule to be given the night before a veterinary visit, and the other to be given two hours before the appointment. The Packs also include one Feliway® wipe. Wipe down the inside of your cat carrier 15 minutes before putting him in for travel, and the soothing pheromones will have a significant calming effect.

A client of ours recently thought she could never get her tabby back to us for an exam. The otherwise sweet cat would get so stressed and upset at visits that he would attack his mama, brother, or anyone that came near him afterward for weeks. We tried out our Peace Pack on him, and his annual exam was transformed into a quick and easy experience.

We would love for other owners of anxious cats to have the same type of visit! Give our front desk a call or swing by our clinic to find out more about our Peace Packs and schedule your cat’s annual wellness exam! Peace out! ☮

Turtle Crossing

Selective Focus Photography of Turtle on Bench

Our friends the turtles are on the move. Now that spring has sprung, turtles and other animals are looking for mates and nests. At some point they may find themselves trying to cross a street. Animals have no concept of right of way! As much as we love these reptiles, we never like seeing them as injured patients in our hospital. Please always keep an eye out for slow-moving turtles trying to cross our busy roadways.
