Canine Influenza Vaccine for Playcare

Image result for dog flu h3n8

Longtime clients of The Folly Road Animal Hospital are already aware that we began vaccinating dogs boarding in our kennel for the H3N2 and H3N8 viruses last year. These are both strains of Canine Influenza which have caused troublesome outbreaks across the nation throughout the last few years. While we are not in the midst of an outbreak in our area today, the viruses are extremely contagious and an outbreak could occur at anytime. In some instances these viruses can be fatal. Because of this, we want to maintain our strict health standards at the Folly Road Animal Hospital kennel by requiring all dogs joining us for Playcare are vaccinated for the dog flu as well. Dogs that come to play for the day are just as much at risk of contracting Canine Influenza as dogs boarding in our kennel, so we do not want to risk the health of our clients’ pets. We ♥ our Playcare dogs! We never want to see them sick and in our hospital, so call our front desk to ask more about the Canine Influenza vaccine and schedule your appointment today.

The Canine Influenza vaccine that we administer is bivalent, meaning it protects against both the H3N2 and H3N8 viruses. Like a puppy shot, this vaccine needs to be boosted one time before it is effective for a year. After the booster, your pup can begin receiving the vaccine annually just like their other core vaccines.

Many of our patients are already vaccinated for Canine Influenza. To confirm your dog is protected, give us a call or send an email anytime.
